            A meeting with representative of Political Parties was held in the Office chamber of Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie, NCS on 13th August 2019. The meeting was held in connection with the Electors Verification Programme (EVP) and as part of the pre-revision exercise.

            In the meeting, the DC & DEO stated that preparation of Electoral Roll was one of the most important exercise besides other election process as Election takes place basing on the prepared E-Rolls. He said that it requires combine efforts to carry out thorough exercise in this regard in order to have an E-Rolls, which is complete in all aspects. He therefore impressed upon the representatives of the political parties to give due importance and active cooperation in carrying out the entire exercise in days to come.

            In the ensuing Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Rolls w.r.t 01.01.2020 as the qualifying date, DC said that whoever reaches the age of 18 years by the qualifying date should find their names in the E-Rolls apart from correction/deletion and inclusion to be made. He also highlighted on the pre-revision activities to be taken up under the exercise, where he informed that the Electors Verification Programme will commence from 1st till 30th of September 2019, during which necessary verification/corrective measures will be taken up. BLOs will carry out house to house verification, which will simultaneously commence from 1st till 30th of September 2019. Provision of rationalization of Polling Stations will also be taken up and Draft Publication of E-Roll will be done on 15th October 2019. The DC also pointed out that besides the BLOs and other manpower appointed by the Election Department and Government side, provision for appointment of Booth Level Agents (BLAs) by the Political Parties is also required to work hand in hand with the BLOs in order to strengthen the entire exercise. He hoped that all the political parties will give interest in making this exercise a success.

            Assistant Election Officer, Toshimeren also highlighted on the concept of the Electors Verification Programme and the roles of BLOs to be carried out in this exercise. He also requested the political parties to disseminate the information through their workers at different levels and to encourage the people to come forward and get verified during the exercise so as to have clean and error free E- Rolls.

            The office of the Chief Electoral Officer Nagaland conducted a state level meeting with Political Parties from Nagaland with regard to Electors Verification Program (EVP) and Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Rolls on 14th August 2019 at Hotel Japfu, Kohima. The main objectives of the EVP are to verify elector’s details and indicate correction in details, to obtain details of family members and verifying their entries, to provide better Electoral Services and to improve health of electoral Roll.

            CEO Nagaland, Abhijit Sinha discussed at length with the members and officials of various political parties from Nagaland on the electoral roll and how its implementation can be improved through EVP. The political parties also brought forth to the notice of the CEO numerous burning issues related to the electoral rolls and the misuse of it during elections.

            The political parties present further acknowledged the initiative of the Election Commission of India in making the electoral process more accessible to the public and hoped that the EVP would help in rooting out the problem of malpractices during elections.

            The Chief Secretary has informed that the attendance of Administrative Heads of Departments and Heads of Departments at important government functions and National Days has been an issue.

            Barring exceptional unavoidable circumstances, all senior officials have been directed to compulsorily attend important functions without fail. It may be noted that even if invitations have been extended, attendance at functions like Republic Day, Independence Day and Governor’s At Home are considered to be ‘On Duty’.

            A Civic reception for the new Governor of Nagaland, R.N Ravi will be held at NBCC Convention Centre on 16th August 2019 at 11:00 AM. Governor of Nagaland R.N Ravi and Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio will address the function.

            The event will witness presentations and shows from Nagaland Adolescent Girls Club (NAGC), Surumi Cultural Society, Baptist Revival Church, Kohima and Purple fusion.

            President, Tenyimia Public Organisation (TPO) will address the welcome note while President Eastern Nagaland Public Organisation (ENPO) and Central Nagaland Tribal Council (CNTC) will speak on behalf of their organisations.

            Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Mon Thavaseelan K, IAS held a meeting with all the Political Parties of Mon District on 13th August 2019 at DC Conference Hall, Mon.

            During the meeting, DC stated that Electors Verification Programme (EVP) is a campaign mode programme in which the citizens are encouraged to come forward and authenticate existing elector’s details along with their family members. DC informed the political parties that Electors Verification Programme (EVP) is scheduled from the 1st to 30th September 2019 as per the ECI notification.

            DC explained in detail the various method of verifications and facilitation centres such as National Voters Service Portal (NVSP): Voters Helpline Mobile App: 1950 call centre (for Senior Citizens and PwD) which has been set up in Election Branch, DC office: and through Booth Level Officer (BLO). DC mentioned that it will be available in all Assistant Election Registration Officer Offices in all the nine Constituencies and also in Common Service Centres.

            DC mentioned that, the citizens can verify their electoral details through NVPS Portal, ‘Voter Helpline’ Mobile app or submitting a hard copy of filled up forms through BLOs to EROs by giving supporting document of one of the following; Indian Passport, Driving License, Aadhaar, Ration card and any other documents as approved by the Election Commission. DC also added that, Elector can search his family detail with EPIC number on NVSP, Mobile App & Helpline and then tagging them together as family.

            Further, DC requested all the political parties to appoint the Booth Level Assistant (BLA) in all the polling stations under Mon District and submit it.

            Additional Deputy Commissioner & Electoral Registration Officer, Mon, Hiazu Meru, requested the political parties to disseminate the information to the citizens on Electors Verifications Programme and asked them to reach out to all the qualified voters in the district. ERO also requested the political parties to update themselves in the use of information technology.

            In connection with the upcoming Independence Day celebration 2019, a mass social work was carried out in Aghunato town on the 14th August 2019. GBs, Adhoc TCMS, elders and the public gave active participation in the programme.
