The 13th edition of the U-14 Inter-District Catch Them Young Tournament was formally inaugurated by Advisor to Chief Minister, Abu Metha at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima on 12th November 2021. The two day sport event is organised by the Department of Youth Resources & Sports.

Abu Metha speaking at the event said that ‘there are no shortcuts in sports, like elsewhere and if you put in your hard work success will come searching for you’. He went on to say that today in the arena of sports and games, being Nagaland champion is no longer good enough  and being national champion is also no longer good enough but to be champion in sports means an international champion.

Metha added that the bottom line of success is measured no longer by certificates but by international medals and the amount of money you earn at the international arena. He further encouraged the athletes that nothing is impossible in this world, especially in sports. He also congratulated the Department of Human Resources for carrying out excellent initiatives, despite enormous challenges and hurdles due to pandemic and lockdown in the State. Metha said despite the challenges, they have observed all the SOPs and they have managed to successfully bring the event to the state level tournament.

Abu Metha stated that the Government of Nagaland continues to give utmost importance to the development of youth activities and sports and games comes to the forefront which is the aspiration of the government. He said that the aspiration of the Naga Olympic Association is for Nagaland to produce champions at the highest levels in sports in the months and years to come. Abu added that to make that happen, the State, the citizens of the State, and all stakeholders must make investments and efforts towards realization of those dreams.

            He also said that for one athlete or a team to get on the podium one day, investment in infrastructure, development of sports at all levels, approaching sports as a science and no longer taking it as a hobby or recreation are the foundations of sport to take off.

Director, YRS, Akumla Chuba delivering her welcome address said that the Catch Them Young is an annual program of the Department where young talents are identified with an aim to give greater opportunities for their future endeavours. She added this year, 1,532 children have enrolled in different sports disciple from all 12 districts adding that the huge enrolment shows the love of sports is growing fast in Nagaland and the message sent across is that sports can be taken as profession and not merely as a hobby. She also informed that in the inter-district tournament 89 boys and 78 girls selected from 12 districts are participating in the tournament. She also urged the stake holders to support and help the children to achieve their goals to bring laurels to the State.

Highlights of the event included oath taking by host team captain on behalf of the players and T Imtisungit Ao took oath on behalf of the officials. The special guest declared the tournament open followed by the boys 100 m heats. Athletes from twelve districts are participating in the tournament.

In view of the State Level Catapult Competition, the Department of Tribal Affairs held a press conference on 11th November, 2021 at conference hall, Directorate of Tribal Affairs, Kohima. The State Level Catapult Competition 2021 is being organized by the Department of Tribal Affairs, GoN, Nagaland Tribal Research Institute and sponsored by Ministry of Tribal Affairs, GoI.

Nodal Officer TRI, K. Ongligaku, briefing the media said that in commemoration of “Azad Ka Amrit Mahotsav” and as part of the celebration of the “iconic week of Bhagwan Birsa Munda Birth Anniversary”, who was an Indian Tribal freedom fighter from the state of Jharkhand, several events will be held from 15th-22nd November 2021 across the country. The Department of Tribal Affairs too shall be organizing a State Level Catapult Target Hitting Competition at Heritage village, Kisama, on 15th November, 2021 at 12:00 noon.

He informed that, the participants for the event will be from different Naga tribes of Nagaland, with maximum of 30 participants. The registration of participants will be done on the spot from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM on 15th November, 2021. The participants are to wear their traditional attires for the event and carry their own traditional bags. The target distances will be 100 metres and the top three winners will be given cash award and certificate. The event will be inaugurated by Addl. Secretary, Nchumbemo Lotha, he added.

Keeping in mind the objective of the Government, the Department decided to select an indigenous game which is lost and forgotten and revive it, for which Catapult had been particularly selected for the week event. The Department of Tribal Affairs urged the tribal youths to participate and witness the event.

Advisor Sericulture, Excise and Minority Affairs, Zhaleo Rio inaugurated the newly constructed Badminton Indoor Stadium at Medziphema and declared open the 1st Medziphema Town winter tournament 2021 at Medziphema Town on 11th November 2021.

Special Guest, Zhaleo Rio said the newly constructed indoor badminton stadium is constructed under the LADP fund 2019-2021 and appealed to all to take good care of the facility, which is an immense benefit for the sporting community of Medziphema. He encouraged the gathering to work hard, make best use of infrastructure facilities which is for all

As a representative of Medziphema Constituency, the Advisor explained the need for the support of the local people in the development of the Sub-division. He appealed the people not to encroach Government land and requested to safeguard the land, support the government in bringing development not only in sub-division but in the state.

“Little minds talk about people, big minds talk about idea”, said Zhaleo Rio, so he urged the people of Medziphema to have great mind and shared ideas about development and Naga unity and how to live in coexistence peaceful. Rio appreciated and thanked all the officials and individuals for making the project a success.

Dr. Er. Vekho Swuro thanked Zhaleo Rio for the concept of constructing the badminton stadium and also gave the technical explanation.

The programme was chaired by ADC Medziphema, Imsongmeren, who also thanked the chief guest for sponsoring the trophies for the Badminton Tournament. Short speeches were delivered by President NDPP 5th Ghaspani II AC, Dosau Kuotsu and President MTYO, Kepe Nakhro, while a special number was presented by Akhriezo Solo.

The winter indoor badminton tournament will be held from November 11th to 12th November and will see the participation of 17 teams from different departments, wards, villages.

Sensitization & Awareness Campaign Programme on Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPWD) Act, 2016 was held at conference hall, Hotel Whispering Winds, Mokokchung on 11th November 2021. The programme was organized by Mission Mode Team (Accessible India Campaign) in collaboration with the office of State Commission for persons with Disabilities.

Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Nagaland & Team Leader, Mission Mode Team (AIC), K. Libanthung Lotha, IAS gave the introduction of the Sensitization & Awareness Campaign and appealed to every person to be a good messenger and educate the people on the campaign on rights of persons with disabilities.

Advocate Guwahati High Court/Legal Implications of Non Compliance, Apila Sangtam, and State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Diethono Nakhro spoke on the overview, status of Implementation & way forward RPWD Act, 2016.

The programme was chaired by ADC Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh, IAS and was attended by heads of Departments and public leaders.

The Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland State Branch (IRCSN) will be conducting the ceremonial function of the 34th annual general meeting of the Society on 17th November 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, Kohima.

            Governor, Nagaland and President, IRCSN, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi will deliver the Presidential Address while Chief Minister, Nagaland and Vice-President, IRCSN, Neiphiu Rio    will deliver  the Vice-Presidential Address. The programme will be presided by Abeni TCK.

Phek District Planning and Development Board meeting was held at DC’s conference hall, Phek on 10th November 2021 under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner and vice chairman, DPDB Phek, Razouvolie Dozo.

The Deputy Commissioner asked the HoDs to urge their respective staff to get vaccinated. Phek district being declared as ginger and cardamom zone, Dozo called upon the member to disseminate to the people for more production

Up gradation of S. Pethury Montessori School, Meluri and registration of Phoyisha Cultural Organization, Phor was approved. Creation of postal branch at Phor village was also approved during the meeting and has been sent to the higher authority for further action. The discussed on having a pre-Christmas celebration and decided to conduct it between 13th and 18th December 2021.

ADC & Administrator, Phek Town Council, Phuleshe asked the members to inform the public to pay their sanitation fees on time and to maintain dustbins to keep the surrounding clean.

CMO Phek, Khriezotuo Paphino informed that about 600 corona cases have been detected and death rate was 2.98% detected. He also urged the members to up vaccination poster on entry at their respective offices.

The departments of Agriculture, Tourism and Economics & Statistic have been requested to present their departmental activities in the next DPDB meeting. Winners of district level essay competition were also felicitated during the meeting where Kheyeto Lohe was declared the winner.

The Governor’s certificate of excellence certificate for district level essay competition on the topic “Relevance of Gandhiji’s thoughts for building a peaceful and prosperous Nagaland” as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav was held at DC’s office chamber on 11th November 2021.

The certificates were given away by Deputy Commissioner Tuensang, Kumar Ramnikant to the winner, Chemi Shiu of GHSS Thangjam and second prize to Simi Kumari of GHSS Tuensang.

The Directorate of Technical Education has informed that, the last date for submission of NEET (UG) 2021 filled application form along with NEET Score Card has been extended up to 17th November 2021, 5:00 PM and required documents are to be submitted by hand to the Additional Director, Directorate of Technical Education.

No form shall be entertained thereafter.





The Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland, V. Shashank Shekhar, IAS along with a team of senior officers from the Chief Electoral Officer’s Office held a series of review meetings with the DEO, ERO and EROS, Recognised/Registered political party representatives, prominent Civil Society Organizations/NGOs and BLO Supervisors and BLOs of Kohima district on 10th November, 2021 at the Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner, Kohima.

During the meetings, various issues pertaining to the ongoing Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Roll w.r.t 01.01.2022 as the qualifying date including issues pertaining to preparing and maintaining an accurate and clean electoral roll, different constraints and issues faced by the election machinery, ensuring proper implementation of the various Election Commission of India’s instructions etc. were discussed.
