Film Association of Nagaland (FAN) will be organising an online short film competition with the topic, “The New Normal”.

At a press conference held at East Gate Hotel, Kohima, on 11th October 2021, General Secretary, FAN, Yapangnaro stated that the short film competition will be open for everyone and is not restricted to professionals. She said that the theme, the new normal, has been chosen as to adapt to a new way of life and a new way of making films post Covid-19 pandemic. She added that the Association plans to announce the results during the Nagaland Film Festival, 2021, which is proposed to be held during the Hornbill Festival.

President, FAN, Kivini Shohe said that the purpose of the competition is to encourage young people to make serious content. She stated that they are hoping for people to share their untold stories, especially of the pandemic experience. She added that FAN plans to promote story tellers even the coming days to come.

Representing the Department of Information & Public Relations, the Nodal Department for films in Nagaland, Joint Director, Asangla Imsong updated on the Department’s activities relating to films. She informed that the third edition of the Nagaland Film Festival is proposed to be held during the Hornbill Festival, 2021 if the pandemic situation subsides. Imsong added that the Department is currently drafting the film policy of the State, which will be drafted keeping in mind of the conditions of the film industry State.

The period of submission for the competition is from 12th October till 12th November 2021. The winner will walk away with ₹ 25,000 & certificate. The second and the third position will be awarded ₹ 15,000 & certificate and ₹ 10,000 & certificate respectively.

The Terms and conditions are:

  1. Maximum length: 10 minutes
  2. Maximum file size: 700 MB
  3. Film can be shot on phone or video camera
  4. The contest will be open to all citizens of Nagaland except members of FAN
  5. Language of the Film shall be in English or in any vernacular with English subtitles
  6. Film Submissions can be made through the email
  7. Contestants should fully & unconditionally be bound to the terms and conditions of the contest.

            The competition is being organised collaboration with the Department of Information & Public Relations and Task Force for Music & Arts (TaFMA).

The monthly District Planning and Development Board meeting was held on 11th October 2021 at DC’s Conference Hall, Wokha.

Vice chairman DPDB & Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, Orenthung Lotha chaired the meeting. The meeting was attended by the Chairman DPDB Wokha & Advisor IT, S&T, NRE, Mmhonlumo Kikon and MLA, Dr. Chumben Murry.

During the meeting, the board discussed on the registration of Care Educational and Welfare Society and proposal for up-gradation of Health & Welfare Care, Merapani to Primary Health Care Centre (PHC). Both the agenda were recommended and forwarded to the higher authority for consideration.

Rural Development, Agriculture and Forest Departments presented their departmental activities in the district. Advisor, Mmhonlumo thanked the departments for presenting a comprehensive presentation on their activities in the district and urged them to implement all their programmes and policies in letter and spirit.

The board also welcomed new members, District Commandant HG&CD Ngongvai E. Phom; DYRO & DSO, K.Libemo Jami and AE, CAWD Daniel H. Lotha.

Water Resources and DSP have been entrusted to present their activities in the next meeting. Chief Medical Officer, Wokha Dr.W.T presented the district status on COVID-19.

The board also read out pledge on Celebration on the Birth of Girl Child to promote equality between boys and girls.

Directorate of Technical Education stated that  students belonging to Schedule Tribes of Nagaland pursuing Diploma/Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses in Engineering (both fresh and renewal) within India, recognized by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) have been informed that, in view of online registration, the State Technical Scholarship will be made ‘Live’ for the session 2021-2022.

The concerned Students/ Applicants may complete the registration process w.e.f from 12th October 2021 to 12th December 2021 through the Common Scholarship Portal



In continuation of Notification No. 82/2021 of even No. dated 27th September 2021, Nagaland Board of School Education has notified again for information and reminder of all the heads of registered institutions that Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan, India’s largest Science Talent Search Examination, for 2021-22 will be held on 30th November or 5th December 2021 any time between 10.00 AM to 8:00 PM for 90 minutes all over India.

Heads of institutions have been requested to encourage their students of Classes VI to XI to participate in this mega national programme. Science teachers who took part in the orientation meeting (Zoom Meet) on 1st Oct 2021, are especially expected to motivate and guide their students in taking these examinations. They are also requested to note that the last date for student registration is 31st October 2021. Registered students will be able to download the study materials to prepare for the examination and also take the mock test scheduled on 1st November 2021.

As notified earlier, VVM is also India’s first app based Open Book Examination. Registered students can take the examination from their home using their own device such as smartphone, laptop or desktop. Winners of school level, District level and State level will be given participation/merit certificates. Zonal level winners (72 students) and National level winners, called Himalayans (18 students) will be undergoing Internship-cum-Extensive Training Programme (known as SRIJAN) in the leading R&D labs of the country. National level winners (Himalayans) will be offered the Bhaskara Scholarships.

The newly extended building of St. Xavier School, Shamator was inaugurated by the Bishop of Nagaland, Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil on 11th October 2021.

Commandant, 45th Assam Rifles, Shamator, Col. Amit Thakur and General Secretary YTC, Tsuyihba exhorted the gathering. Principal, St.Xavier School, Rev.Fr. Tommy also spoke in the programme.
