BRIEFING ON COVID-19 ON 10th JULY 2020 FOR NAGALAND BY PRINCIPAL SECRETARY, HOME

            The full text is as follows:

“A meeting of the High Powered Committee on COVID-19 was held today under the Chairmanship of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Nagaland with the Co-Chairman, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister along with Members, the Hon’ble Minister, Health & FW, Hon’ble Minister, Planning, LR & Parliamentary Affairs, Hon’ble Advisor, IT & ST and NRE and senior officials of the State Government.

The High Powered Committee (HPC) reviewed the existing lockdown measures in the State and also the modified plan submitted by the Health Department for declaring Containment Zones and the protocols to be followed. The HPC also deliberated the functioning of the Quarantine Centres and reviewed the existing provisions of the SOP for returnees. The proposal for imposition of total lockdown in Kohima Municipal areas for one week was also discussed. The HPC after taking into consideration all relevant facts decided that total lockdown as proposed may not be warranted for now in Kohima Municipal areas. The HPC directed DTF Kohima for strict adherence to all the protocols of the Containment Plans for all such areas where positive cases have come up and for doing rigorous contact tracing and listing, active surveillance and other necessary activities for preventing and containing the spread of COVID-19.

The HPC also reviewed the availability of essential medicines and medical equipments and other essential accessories with the Health Department, and further directed the Department to expedite the process for recruitment of additional doctors and nurses, as already approved by the Government, so that their services could be used for strengthening the health care system across the State without delay.

As regard the total positive cases in the State, as on today, the number stands at 732. All the positive persons are receiving medical care at the designated COVID-19 Hospitals and COVID-19 Care Centres. Further, active surveillance and contact tracing is in progress to prevent further spreading of the infection.

Out of the 732 positive cases, the total active cases are 428, and 304 have recovered. As per the severity of symptoms, 424 active cases are asymptomatic and 4 active cases are mild.

Till date, a total of 15,431 samples have been sent for testing through RT-PCR. Results of 14,662 samples have been received. Out of the 15,431 samples, 9,750 samples have been received at the BSL-3 lab at the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) and a total of 9,649 samples have been tested, out of which 521 samples have tested positive. Further at BSL 2 Lab at CIHSR, Dimapur, 1,174 samples have been processed and 73 samples have been tested positive.

In addition 9,005 samples have been sent for testing on Truenat. Results of 8,740 samples have been received. 249 cases have tested positive, and have been sent for confirmation by RT-PCR,

A total of 3614 persons are presently under Facility Quarantine.”

TEAM LED BY SENIOR OFFICIALS HOLDS MEETING AT PEREN

A government team led by Health & Family Welfare Secretary, Kensonyu Yhome along with OSD, Nagaland State Disaster Management, Johnny Ruangmai and Health & Family Welfare Joint Director, Dr. Kikameren Longkumer visited Peren District on 9th July, 2020 and convened a meeting with Joint Action Committee (JAC), Civil Society Organizations and Students’ bodies of Peren district on Covid-19 related issues at Conference Hall, District Headquarter Peren.

The meeting deliberated on the incident in which a positive patient was transported to Jalukie along with 16 returnees on 3rd June before the test result was out. They also discussed the June 23rd night incident where 96 Haryana returnees were sent off for home quarantine without getting re-tested.

In the meeting, the Official team said, Government will form a Technical Committee to set up COVID Hospital at District Hospital, Peren and ensured to reinstate full-fledged CMO, Peren at the earliest as the post is lying vacant. It was also informed that Government will enhance the strength of Specialist Doctor for Peren District Hospital from 23 to 50 percent, nurses strength from 27 to 75 percent and two Non-Specialist Doctors will be added within a month for immediate necessary action.

Earlier, the Official team also inspected District Hospital, Peren and had a short interaction with various Civil Societies.

DC DIMAPUR STRESSES ON COVID-19 PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES

Deputy Commissioner Dimapur Anoop Kinchi IAS, stressed on the need and importance of wearing mask, handwashing and maintaining physical distancing as the only option for fighting Corona virus. He said this while addressing the participants on the concluding day of 2 day training program held for community leaders to equip them with skills and knowledge on how to protect themselves and the community from COVID-19, organised by CISHR in collaboration with Dimapur District administration and DMC Dimapur which started yesterday at Lotha Hoho Ki and Commissioner Taxes Conference hall. Anoop addressed the participants in both the locations today 10th July 2020.

He encouraged all the participants reminding them that they were representatives from their community and advised them to replicate whatever they learned during the training in their own community. He also stressed on helping each other by monitoring whether the other person was complying with the preventive measures and practices. Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Anoop Kinchi IAS welcomed and thanked CIHSR and everyone for coming to the training session.

PEREN DTF & JAC HOLDS MEETING

Peren District Task Force on COVID-19 held a joint meeting with Joint Action Committee (JAC) on 10th July, 2020 at DB Court, ADC Office Jalukie under the chairmanship of DC Peren-cum-DTF Chairman, Sentiwapang  Aier, NCS.

Presiding over the meeting, DC Peren welcomed the new medical team posted at Peren and also the new JAC members followed with self-introduction from the members present in the meeting.

The DTF and JAC members deliberated on the matter related to total lockdown in the district, in this regard the members after a thorough deliberation resolved to relaxed total lockdown in the whole of Peren District from 12th July, 2020. DC Peren also said, the general public are to be reminded to strictly adhere with the existing lockdown guidelines issued by the State Govt.

Further, DC Peren also appealed the public to strictly follow safety measures such as compulsory use of face mask, hand hygiene protocol and maintenance of social distancing.

Dr.Imnuk also highlighted on the current status of Haryana returnees as well as contact tracing carried out in containment areas by Health frontline workers of Peren.

BAILY BAPTIST COLLEGE COVID CARE CENTRE SHIFTED TO OST DMMDH

Deputy Commissioner & Chairman District Task Force for COVID-19 Wokha, Orenthung Lotha has informed that as per resolution adopted by the District Task Force Wokha on 1st June 2020 to shift the COVID Care Centre at Baily Baptist College quarantine Centre to OST Centre situated in the premise of the District Mhondamo Memorial District Hospital (DMMDH) Wokha.

The repair and renovation and all necessary amenities and security works have been completed, the OST centre shall start functioning as COVID care centre with immediate effect.

The Medical Superintendent (MS), DMMDH, Wokhahas been directed to admit the asymptomatic positive cases to the newly activated facility.
