            Akho from Phek District emerged as the undisputed winner of Naga King Chilli Eating Competition held at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama on 7th December 2018.

            Naga King Chilli Eating Competition is being organised as an annual event of the Hornbill festival. It is considered as one of the most spectacular events witnessed by hundreds of spectators every year. This competition is being organised every year coinciding with the Hornbill festival in order to promote the famous Naga King Chilli to the outside world.

            The event was managed by XL Nagaland which was sponsored by Horticulture department and supported by Oking Hospital and Research Centre, Kohima.

            Akho, the winner of the competition could finish five hot naga king chillies and emerged as the winner in the local category. The 2nd position was bagged by Seintong from Peren whereas the 3rd position was bagged by Aku Khamo from Kohima. The 1st, 2nd & 3rd position got 20,000, 15,000/- and 10,000/- respectively. Seiminlal from Peren and Keneiselhou Viyie from Kohima bagged the 4th and 5th position and pocketed a sum of Rs. 5000/- each.

            Interestingly, Tapan from Guwahati finished six hot Naga King Chillies and emerged as the undisputed winner in the tourist category. He is also the overall winner of the 19th Hornbill Naga King Chilli Eating Competition.

            Altogether eight participants in the local category and four participants including one lady in the tourist category took part in the competition.

            Secretary, Tourism, T. Mhabemo Yanthan gave away the prizes to the winners of the competition.
