            Organised by the Department of Horticulture in collaboration with Saveer Biotech Limited, New Delhi and Meghastar Agro Horti Pvt limited, Guwahati, a two day training programme on cultivation and management of flowers & vegetable under protected condition which began from 8th August 2019 culminated on 9th August 2019 at the Conference Hall, Directorate of Horticulture, Kohima.

            Addl. Director of Horticulture, Qhutovi Wotsa, in his key note address, stated that Nagaland has a long way to go in the development of export oriented production, besides having the potential the state is unable to meet the trade policies. He pointed that, Nagaland has the advantage of good climatic conditions and sufficient fertile land which is suitable for cultivation of all kinds of flowers & Vegetables. He apprised the trainees to consider the period of harvesting season so that one can meet the buyers and consumers demand.

            To create employment and go green, Wotsa urged all to use fresh flowers instead of artificial flowers at any occasion. He urged the trainees to use optimum chemicals so that it will be beneficial to them and not create health hazard to the buyers or consumers.

            He encouraged the trainees to choose the kind of flowers or vegetables which will create avenues and give them economic returns.

            Deputy Director of Horticulture, S. Senka Jamir said that owing to steady increase in demand of flowers, floriculture has become a lucrative business in Horticulture sector. He expressed hope that this training would be a beneficial for enhancing quality and quantity production of flowers and vegetables and eventually help small scale and related horticulture businesses to meet market demand.

            The resource persons on the second day of the training were Dr. Hema Kumar Makhure, Saveer Biotech Limited, Delhi and Gunin Roy, Meghastar Agro Horti Pvt Ltd, Guwahati. In the first technical session, the trainees were briefed on the cultivation of Lillium, cultivation practices of Gerbera & Carnation and Cultivation practices of Tomato/cherry tomato followed by second technical session where Management of Poly house was briefed by T. Eluba, Asst. Horticulture Officer.

            The training was sponsored under Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), Ministry of Agriculture Cooperation & Farmers Welfare, Govt of India. Altogether, 80 participants attended the training from all the districts.

            Sakhi-One Stop Centre (OSC) conducted an awareness programme on OSC functioning on 9th August 2019 at Springdale School, Wokha.

            Myingthunglo Odyuo, an intern under OSC, spoke on the different types of violence. Briefing the students Odyuo said that beneficiaries are women and children/girls below 18 years. The beneficiaries can avail integrated support and assistance from the Centre facilitating immediate emergency and non- emergency services including medical, legal, psychological and counseling support.

            Advocate, Nancy, Case Worker OSC, Wokha dwelled on the protection of children from sexual offences Act, 2012 (POCSO), where she stated that the Act was enacted to provide protection of children from sexual assault, sexual harassment and pornography, while safeguarding the interest of child at every stage of judicial process.

            She also explained the students about the four private areas of human body, adding the good touch and bad touch to make them aware that if anyone touches them inappropriately in the private areas making them feel uncomfortable and uneasy they should immediately complain to their parents, teachers or elders whom they trust or who can address the issue to the Police.

            The team also distributed flyers and pamphlets on Domestic Violence, Cyber crime and toll free number 181to the students and teachers.

            A cascaded Training for EROs, AEROs and AEOs for conduct of Electors Verification Program (EVP) and Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Rolls w.r.t 01.01.2020 as qualifying date was held on 9th August 2019 at Multipurpose Hall, Administrative Training Institute, Kohima.

            During the training Chief Electoral Officer Nagaland, Abhijit Sinha IAS addressed the trainees while Deputy CEO, Awa Lorin spoke on the topic Electors Verification Program and IT Section, CEO’s Office gave a presentation on ERO Net/BLO Net/NVSP/Voter Helpline Mobile App. Deputy CEO, Ruokuovituo Khezhie spoke on Legal Provisions and Procedural matters followed by discussion by Addl. CEO, Nagaland, N. Moa Aier.

            District level Sensitization programme on Scholarship Scheme 2019-20 was held at Council hall Mon on 8th August 2019.

            Deputy Director & Nodal Officer Scholarship Nagaland, Limadangit Jamir has requested the teaching community to go extra mile in helping the students to avail the scholarship schemes. He said that the head of the institution and the teachers are to play a vital role to in order to avail the schemes for the students. He informed that the Ministry has opened the National Scholarship Portal (NPS) for applying online application through where the students can apply.

            Sr. SDEO Mon, K. Limhathung Odyuo address requested the teachers to spread awareness for proper implementation on scholarship scheme.

            JangsembaTzudir who was a resource person of the programme spoke on the Pre-Matric Scholarship scheme for Minorities, Pre-Matric Scholarship for ST Students Studying in Class IX & X and Nagaland Government Students Meritorious Award. During discussion hours, the resources persons clarified the doubt raise by the teachers.

            The programme was organized by District Education Officer and sponsored by Directorate of School Education, Nagaland.

            Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Rajesh Soundararajan has informed all the government servants posted within Mokokchung town that the Independence Day Function 2019 will commence at the usual time of 8:40 AM at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung. Therefore all the Government Servants/Students have been directed to attend the function without fail

            Further, all the District Head of Offices have been directed to take the attendance of their respective staff and submit to DC’s Office for onward submission to the Government for necessary action.

            Deputy Commissioner also requested all the Village Council members and GBs of Ungma, Mokokchung, Chuchuyimpang and Khensa Villages, GBs of Mokokchung town, functionaries of all the 18 wards and Public of Mokokchung town to attend the function.

            ATMA Governing Board (GB), Dimapur conducted the quarterly meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall on 8th August 2019. The meeting was chaired by Kevekha Kevin Zehol, Deputy Commissioner Dimapur. During the meeting PowerPoint presentation on ATMA Dimapur activities from February to July 2019 was presented by Dr. Ithika C. Swu, Deputy Project Director, ATMA Dimapur.

            Tokugha Zhimo, State level Farmer Awardee also gave a presentation on his success story on Integrated farming and highlighted and thanked ATMA Dimapur and agri and allied departments for their assistance and guidance.

            The board also deliberated on funding and reaffirmed to strictly follow the guidelines as well as practice Direct Benefit Transfer as mandated. It also decided that, for convergence of activities like RKVY, saturated areas or villages will not be taken up.

            The meeting concluded with Chairman thanking the members for their attendance and valuable suggestions and encouraged the members to work together for the upliftment of the farming community.

            Mon District Administration in collaboration with Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK) Mon organised an Awareness Seminar on Breast feeding under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme on the theme Breast Feed Best Feed at St. Mary’s High School on 7th August 2019. The seminar was conducted as part of the Global Breastfeeding Week Celebrations from 1st to 7th August 2019. The program was chaired by Ngepshom Konyak, Women Welfare Officer, MSK Mon.

            Resource person, Dr. Shasinle Tep, DPO (UIP & RCH) spoke on the importance of Breastfeeding. A mother should breastfeed her child for six complete months. Maternity leave of six months is given to every working mother in order to increase the bond between the mother and her child. Breastfeeding nurtures the child but as mother’s milk is considered as the best feed for a child.

            District Coordinator, MSK, Neijoi Konyak highlighted on the aims and objectives of Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK) / District Level Centre for Women (DLCW). She spoke on two schemes in detail – Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY).

            Angun Lily Konyak, Counsellor of Sakhi- One Stop Centre, Mon highlighted about the programme and services provided by OSC. She further encouraged and motivated the women to stand up for their rights and not keep facing violence.

            Mon District Administration has initiated the process of setting up Emporium Skill Training Institute (ESTI) at Wangkhao Government College (WGC), Mon with the signing of a MoU between ESTI, Wangkhao Government College and the District Administration on 5th August 2019. The signatories were Thavaseelan K, IAS, DC & Chairman, WGC Advisory Board; Anirban Mukherjee, Operations Head (India & International), ESTI and M.L. Ngullie, Principal, WGC. It is pertinent to note that WGC is the 1st Government College in Nagaland to establish a Skill Training Institute.

            An ESTI Centre will be established at the College premises to provide Skill Training & Placements for WGC Students as well as youth of Mon District. The training duration would be 3 months and is completely free. The cost is sponsored by the Central & State Governments under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) Scheme. The Sectors for which job roles are available include Aviation, Hospitality & Luxury Cruise Liners. Students can complete the course during the penultimate or final year of study so that they can appear for placements as and when they complete their education. It is proposed that 4 batches of 30 students each would run simultaneously.

            ESTI is a recruitment partner for some of the best brands in the world including but not limited to Emirates, Qatar Airways, Indigo, Air India, Vistara, Go Air, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Taj Hotels, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Inter Continental, JW Marriott, Accor Hotels and the like.

            The Longleng Town Council has informed to all its citizens that the Government is funding for construction of public toilets and individual household latrines under Swachh Bharat Mission at Longleng Town Council.

            In this connection, the SDO (Civil) Longleng, D. Robin in a notification had informed that the program was intended to bring about “Open Defecation Free” (ODF) in Longleng Town. Therefore, it has been publicly announced inviting public feedbacks/objection within 15 days of announcement.

            It further informed that anyone found indulging in open defecation, a penalty of Rs. 200/- shall be imposed for the first offence and Rs. 300/- for the subsequent offence.

            Zunheboto Bharat Scouts and Guides held induction ceremony on 8th August 2019 at DC’s official residence, DC Hill Colony, Zunheboto. Peter Lichamo NCS, Deputy Commissioner Zunheboto was inducted as District President NBSG.

            In his speech, Peter thanked all the officers of BSG Zunheboto for honoring him, and while expressing his happiness to be part of the Scouts and Guides he assured to extend full cooperation towards the Scouts and Guide movement in the district.

            Nihoshe Jimo PGT, District Commissioner NBSG chaired the programme, Vekhoyi Medeo ADOC (S) held flag, Nikiye Assumi DTC conducted oath taking and Khuyivi Achumi DOC(S) gave presentation and led the scouts and guides yell. The programme was concluded with photo session and refreshment.

            A team consisting of Administration and Police of Noklak conducted a surprise checking on sale of expired food items and others consumer goods, liquor and narcotic substance in Noklak Town. The team found and seized expired and unlicensed food items, non-consumables and pharmaceuticals worth several thousands of rupees. The defaulters were imposed minor penalty and a stern warning was issued to all businesses establishments for strict adherence to existing food safety and standard norms. Trade license and permit were also checked. The seized items were later destroyed in presence of magistrates -SDO (civil) and EAC Noklak, police and representatives of civil society organizations of Noklak Town.

            In view of the forth coming celebration of Independence Day 2019, to be held at Tseminyu on 15th August 2019, a mass social work was conducted at Tseminyu town on 9th August 2019.

            The social work, supervised by Administration of Tseminyu led by Tsutsowe, SDO (C), was successfully conducted beginning from 8:00 hrs in the morning till 1:00 PM.

            Both government employees and public from all nine wards in Tseminyu town participated in the social work, where on the spot attendance were conducted for both public households of Tseminyu town and all the department staff.
